Transitional Outfits With Vintage Items

The fall is upon us and I adore fall fashion! I find it easier to feel chic and elegant with fall fashion. Luckily autumn equinox is right around the corner. It however does not feel that much like fall here in San Diego. It’s still hot! Although the mornings and evenings are generally cooler, thank god. And from my understanding it is still hot in most places right now. Alas, it’s not quite time for fall outfits. But it is time for transitional outfits. To me that means outfits that combine summer items - miniskirts, shorts, silks, and linens, with fall elements like loafers, blazers, and rich colors. I have been styling transitional outfits with vintage pieces that I bought recently, so let me show you what I mean.

Moschino

I love me some Moschino, vintage or otherwise. I found this amazing vintage Moschino blazer from a 90s Franco Moschino collection on The Real Real and I think that I can style it year round. For a transitional look I styled it with black tailored shorts, a cherry red tank, platform loafers, and a cherry red bag. To me this is the perfect transitional evening outfit.

You can find a striped red blazer - second hand or vintage - on The Real Real too, like the ones below. I just searched for “red striped blazer”. Or if you are looking for vintage Moschino, just search “vintage Moschino blazer”.

Todd Oldham

My Fran Fine obsession led me to a Todd Oldham obsession which led to me a hunt for vintage Todd Olham pieces. They are super hard to find! I found this vest on Poshmark, it was a few sizes too big so I got it altered. This is also a piece I would wear year-round. To me, it is a timeless, forever piece. So it was a good investment (it wasn’t even that expensive). In the summer I wore it with pink shorts, a white miniskirt, or white shorts. For a transitional look I styled it with black trousers, cherry red boots, and a cherry red bag. The boots I got on The Real Real, and the bag I got from ssense when they were having their huge summer sale.

Roberto Cavalli

Cavalli is another favorite designer that I shop vintage/second hand. I found two awesome vintage Cavalli tops in Montreal (see previous post). This long sleeve feels like its from the 90s. I love the rich colors which make it a great transitional piece. I styled it with a miniskirt, a black vest, and the same cherry red boots and bag. For a more summery look I would wear it without the vest and with strappy black sandals. For a more winter look I would just swap out the miniskirt for black jeans or trousers. There are so many amazing Cavalli pieces on The Real Real!

Blumarine

I styled this final transitional look around a Y2K Blumarine wool cardigan I got from The Real Real. This cardigan is actually quite warm, so its great for cooler evenings. To keep it a little lighter I styled it with my black miniskirt - the Moschino one I bought on Poshmark for $30 and had shortened, and my favorite platform loafers. To those on fashion Tik Tok saying platform loafers are out, it’s okay to be wrong. I am a platform for life girlie, I don’t care if they are trendy. Wear what you like.
