More Fran Fine Inspired Outfits
I have been listening to my own advice about how to dress like Fran Fine. It has been so much fun! I’ve been finding the silhouettes that Brenda Cooper used in the wardrobe for The Nanny are flattering on me and I love the 90s aesthetic. I have been incorporating some key Fran Fine elements into my wardrobe. Particularly vests, miniskirts, and blazers. I love a good blazer. Recently I have been lucky enough to find two pieces that were actually worn by Fran Drescher on The Nanny! I have found many similar pieces to what Fran wore but I was incredibly excited to find some pieces that were on the show. I guess I am becoming a Fran Fine outfit collector now! I am super excited about these pieces so I created this post to share them. I also have a third outfit in this post that doesn’t include exact pieces from the show but is an outfit combination that I am currently obsessed with - the plaid jacket and ruffle blouse. It is actually pretty hard to find ruffle blouses these days. It took me months to find these items and I am excited to share them.
The Sailor Jacket
In season 4 episode 5 - Freeda Needa Man, Fran wore this incredible sailor jacket ensemble to the yacht club. My husband was the one who got me on the hunt for this jacket. He loved the outfit. I love most, if not all, of her outfits, so if I looked for every single one I wouldn’t have time to do anything else. I have to pick and choose. My favorites have been Moschino and Todd Oldham, but recently I started expanding my horizons and looking for some of the other designers worn on the show. It is really hard to find anything Todd Oldham and most of the Moschino pieces that were featured on the show are super expensive. Like I found the rainbow jacket on Vestiaire for literally $10,000. I found a similar one for $3000. I found the Italian flag color jacket for $3000. I was getting depressed. But then I hit a stroke of luck when I started to look for this sailor jacket! I follow several The Nanny fashion/collector account on Instagram (What Fran Wore & Collecting The Nanny) which helped me discover that this particular jacket is by Karen Kane, a designer I had never heard of before. I spent some time searching online on eBay and other platforms and ended up finding it for $45 on Poshmark, in my size! This was such a good find. It is hard to find vintage items that actually fit me. Vintage sizing can be super tough! I am short and curvy, so that it makes it a little harder.
The Moschino Plaid Jacket
I say “The Moschino Plaid Jacket” as if there were only one! There were several, but I found one that Fran actually wore! It is so cute, it has a velvet collar, red velvet heart buttons, a pleated peplum in the back, and a velvet ribbon. I am obsessed. It is a Moschino piece that didn’t cost thousands of dollars, which is a bonus. I paid $350 for it, which is still expensive, but I do think it is worth it. It is 100%, and all of the details are incredible. Fran wore this jacket on season 3 episode 21. I initially found it on Vestiaire and I asked the seller for the waist measurement because that area always seems to not fit me right. She got back to me with the measurement; once I knew it would fit I went to make an offer on it, and it already sold! I was so upset. Like for days. I know there are way worse things in life, I am well aware, but I was still pretty disappointed. It is so hard to find pieces that were actually worn on The Nanny! But then I kept looking for that specific one, because I really loved it. And alas a few weeks later I found it on eBay, and in the right size! I was so happy.
The Plaid Jacket and Ruffle Blouse Combo
I first fell in love with this combo when I first saw it in Season 1. One of my favorite outfits from The Nanny - simple and chic, yet it has personality. She wore a Dolce & Gabbana plaid blazer, a white ruffle blouse, and straight leg jeans. I actually found this exact blazer on The Real Real. It was $350. I found it in the dead of summer and I didn’t really have any extra cash at the time. I couldn’t justify buying a wool blazer. I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear it for a few months anyway so I figured I would wait and buy it if was still around. The Real Real put it on sale for $280 about two months later which made me decide to buy it. I go to buy and its sold out. I guess someone else jumped on it after it went on sale. The same thing happened to me with a ruffle blouse that I found on The Real Real. It was also Dolce & Gabbana. But again I couldn’t even think of wearing long sleeves at the time. It went on sale and then someone else bought it. Oh well, in this vintage fashion game you win some you lose some. I eventually found a different ruffle blouse on The Real Real and when it got a little colder (its still pretty hot) I bought a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier plaid jacket from Poshmark. I paid $75 for the blouse and $190 for the blazer - so at least the blazer was cheaper. Even if it isn’t the exact same, I am still obsessed with this look.
I hope you love these outfits as much as I do! I have my eye on a few more pieces from the show, I will post them if I get them.
